March’s Fit4Spring Wellness Challenge engaged members and staff in fun activities to encourage their health and wellness goals.
To enter the challenge, a person simply had to complete the weekly challenge and post on their social media channel using #YFit4Spring.
We had a ton of fun connecting with our online community during these four weeks.
Let's look at some highlights:
In week two, participants shared photos of their healthy meals. For inspiration, they used our online library of healthy recipes, our printed recipe cards available in all Y locations, and also selected their own healthy recipes from other sources.
Peg Duthie adapted a Y recipe into one of her own. She posted, “Avocado with pine-nut hummus, cilantro, and pickled Christmas pepper (my riff on tuna stuffed avocado recipe card from the Y).”
Jenny Thompson shared a photo from a friend’s birthday brunch: “… healthy bodies, healthy lives, healthy souls, it was beautiful.”
A post from WhiskeyandBrass featured mouth-watering balsamic glazed chicken, cheesy spaghetti squash, roasted beets and kale.
Delicious dishes from other participants included:
- Homemade veggie pizza
- Noodles with cauliflower alfredo, shrimp, and roasted zucchini
- Homemade veggie egg foo young
- Creamy dill salmon with braised kale and carrots and homemade baked oven fries
- Turkey sausage and egg hash, tomato slices, and fresh fruit salad
Week three proved to be another favorite, when the challenge was to exercise with a Y buddy. Many health success stories involve the extra accountability and encouragement that come with fitness friends. Read 5 Reasons You Need a Fitness Buddy.
Entries included photos from early morning workouts, a community race, Pilates and other group exercise classes, and cardio training on the wellness floor.
At the Green Hills location, longtime workout pals, Judy Andrews and Betty Davis Williams, were pictured (above left) getting ready to exercise, while Brittany Cheryl West (below) posted a photo of her whole family working out together at Robertson County Family YMCA.
